For the second year in a row, Novus Home Mortgage has stepped up to sponsor one of the most meaningful awards of the year: the Alumni Impact Award. This award honors an i.c.stars alum who has made a significant impact, not just in their career, but in their community. It’s given to those who embody the core values that make them true stars—those making a difference and giving back.
These values align closely with those of Novus Home Mortgage. The word “Novus” means “new” in Latin, reflecting the company’s vision to bring a fresh perspective to the mortgage industry. Novus combines the strength and stability of a bank with the flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit of an independent mortgage banker.
At the heart of Novus’ involvement is Dale Mittelstaedt, their CTO and a long-time supporter and former board member of i.c.stars Milwaukee. Dale’s passion for the organization’s mission runs deep. He was one of the original advocates who played a key role in bringing the i.c.stars office to Milwaukee in 2018. Dale has always been a champion for the underdog, rooting for those who dare to rise up against the odds.
His dedication stems from his roots. Growing up on a family farm, Dale developed a passion for fresh, healthy food and a deep-seated sense of community, which has carried into his professional life. He often reflects on the “help your neighbor” mentality he experienced on the farm, and how that same ethic shapes his view of the workplace today. This upbringing also ignited his drive to combat food deserts in Milwaukee, merging his technological skills with his passion for making fresh food accessible to all.
Dale has been a trailblazer at every company he’s been a part of, and over the past five years, he has brought i.c.stars along with him on his journey. A regular speaker at High Tea, he never hesitates to share both his career triumphs and the heartbreaks of his challenges. He speaks candidly about what he calls “career failures,” driving home the message that even in moments of perceived failure, resilience and the will to get back to what truly matter.
True to his nature, Dale doesn’t make this award about himself. Novus Home Mortgage’s sponsorship of the Alumni Impact Award is, for him, another opportunity to give back and uplift the next generation of leaders. This year’s recipient, Touly Vang, holds special significance for Dale. Their mutual respect and admiration go back five years, making this recognition even more meaningful.
