At i.c.stars, our mission is driven by the incredible people who believe in the power of opportunity, and choose to show up. While our interns bring grit, talent, and passion to the table every day, it’s our volunteers who amplify that potential with mentorship, encouragement, and real-world connection.
Today, we’re honored to spotlight one of those changemakers: Rosalyn Ford, Sr. Principal Director of Managed Solutions at Equinix, and a dedicated i.c.stars volunteer.
A Tech Trailblazer with Chicago Roots
Rosalyn grew up in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and earned her degree in Marketing with a French minor from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Her professional journey began in consumer purchase behavior, but it wasn’t long before technology became her calling, sparked by an opportunity to work at Apple Computer.
Since then, Rosalyn has built an impressive career across networking firms and landed at Equinix in 2003. Today, she leads a global team as Director of Managed Solutions, helping enterprise customers solve complex challenges across the digital landscape.
How She Found i.c.stars
Though Rosalyn had heard about i.c.stars for years, it wasn’t until a colleague, Robert, formally introduced her to our work that she took the leap to get involved.
“I’m so glad I did,” Rosalyn says. “Meeting the different cohorts and listening to their passion for technology and learning, it’s incredibly rewarding.”
A Standout Moment of Impact
One of Rosalyn’s most meaningful experiences as a volunteer came during a tour of the Equinix Chicago data center in April 2024. After the visit, one intern, Kayla, applied for an open position at Equinix.
“To my pleasant surprise, she got the job!” Rosalyn shared. “Robert and I even had lunch with her on her first day. But what made it even more special was learning a few weeks later that Kayla was offered a full-time position. I can’t tell you how happy and gratified I was. That moment really meant something.”
Why She Believes in the Mission
“i.c.stars is changing lives, and that is one of the greatest gifts an organization can give,” Rosalyn reflects. She sees firsthand how exposure to the tech industry, along with strong mentorship, can shape not just careers, but whole futures.
When asked what she would say to someone considering getting involved, she doesn’t hesitate:
“Just do it. Jump in with both feet.”
What Volunteerism Means to Rosalyn
Rosalyn shared what giving back means to her: “Volunteerism means sharing a part of yourself to help someone grow, which in turn helps you grow. That connection, that mutual impact, it’s powerful.”
Rosalyn, thank you for showing our interns what’s possible and for being a part of their journeys. Your time, leadership, and heart embody the spirit of i.c.stars.
