At Wintrust Financial Corporation, Senior Vice President Miko leads with distinction in the Information Technology group based in Rosemont, Illinois. Yet his impact extends far beyond the office. As a dedicated volunteer, devoted father, and lifelong learner, Miko brings the same thoughtfulness and compassion to his community work as he does to his professional leadership.

A Life Rich with Purpose
Family is at the heart of Miko’s world. He and his wife treasure their time with their son Drake, who is autistic and has an extraordinary gift—he’s memorized every U.S. state capital. Together, the family has turned this passion into adventure, embarking on road trips to visit capitals and uncover hidden treasures across the country. “We’re running out of places within a day or two of driving,” Miko shares with a smile, “so it’s time to start venturing further out!”

Discovering i.c.stars
Miko’s journey with i.c.stars began through Wintrust’s longstanding partnership with the organization—a relationship so valued that i.c.stars is featured prominently on the company’s Mural Building along Chicago’s Kennedy Expressway.

What started as corporate connection evolved into personal commitment. Miko began volunteering as a VIP Host at events, creating meaningful dialogue between industry leaders and emerging talent. He later facilitated a High Tea session, opening up about his own journey and the lessons learned along the way.

“It was incredibly fulfilling,” he reflects. “Being able to connect personally with the interns—to hear their stories, answer their questions, and support them as they navigate their own paths—was an experience I’ll never forget.”

The Power of Transformation
For Miko, the most profound aspect of volunteering is witnessing transformation in real time.

“The interactions with interns are so powerful,” he explains. “Hearing how i.c.stars has changed their lives—and the ripple effect on their families—is deeply uplifting.”

The organization’s reputation speaks for itself. Throughout his professional network, Miko consistently encounters respect and admiration for i.c.stars. “Whenever I mention the organization, people light up. Everyone has something positive to share about its impact. That consistency of excellence reflects the team’s dedication and the strength of the mission.”

Stories That Inspire
Miko treasures the countless conversations that have left lasting impressions. “The interns’ stories are remarkable,” he shares. “Many are parents, single mothers, or caregivers who balance significant family responsibilities while committing to intensive full-day programs. The determination and resilience they demonstrate is truly humbling.”

Some connections have grown into enduring relationships. “Several interns stay in touch long after their programs end—reaching out for advice or simply to reconnect,” Miko notes warmly. “Those relationships mean the world to me.”

Why i.c.stars Stands Apart
When asked about the organization’s unique value, Miko points to founder Sandee Kastrul’s vision. “Sandee articulates it beautifully—there are tremendously talented people in our communities who simply need the right opportunity.”

From Miko’s perspective, i.c.stars distinguishes itself through comprehensive support: delivering exceptional technology training, providing stipends that help participants support their families, and cultivating meaningful corporate partnerships that create genuine career pathways.

“The commitment doesn’t end at graduation,” Miko emphasizes. “The team continues to invest in each person’s success, checking in and providing ongoing support.”

An Invitation to Make a Difference
For anyone considering volunteering, Miko offers straightforward encouragement: “Say yes.”

“You’ll find yourself saying yes more often than you might expect,” he adds with a knowing smile, “but that’s because i.c.stars makes it easy to believe in the work. You witness the direct impact of your involvement—and that’s something truly special.”
