The Hope Needs You / Life Lessons From a Seven-Year-Old

Dear Cycle 25,

I am so proud of all of you and filled with hope as you commence from your i.c.stars internship. As you begin your next journey, I am reminded of Tracy Grahm’s powerful words at tea last week: “When we lose our sense of hope, we’ve lost everything. If we don’t have faith in something, we cannot do anything.”

Years ago during a workshop with Cycle 5, we were talking about our responsibility on this planet. Everyone had to state his mission in one word. It was right before the holidays that year and Keirra Moore, the daughter of one of the interns, was with us. She was seven-years-old at the time, and she did the workshop like everyone else. She came up with a set of powerful instructions that continue to motivate and inspire me. I shared this set of instructions with Cycle 25 last week as they prepared for their commencement and new beginning. I want to share it with all of you too.

I am on this planet to overstand the Lord,

• To do the thing other people did to help out
• Revising your brain
• Tell angry people you don’t know
• Have fun with your present
• Memorize your brain
• Remember what to do after you do something
• Just do it
• If we do the example of something
• The thing you are expressing, your gift
• The environment of your act
• Your tradition
• Act out your person
• Act
• Do whatever you want
• The power of your world have
• Have trust of yourself
• Realize, noodilize (not real word) your gift
• To incorporate, achieve
• The hope needs you

Every time I read this set of instructions from Kierra, who by the way is getting ready to go to college now, I’m moved. Every time I hear a different part of it. As we are looking at expanding to other cities and markets, the idea “to incorporate, achieve” stands out to me today. One of the most profound messages we can give any city is one about our achievements. To incorporate with others, we need to show what we can do it and to prove it. I think we have an amazing story to tell.

At the end of the day, those of you who are commencing, starting on something new, and beginning a new journey, just remember that hope needs you.
